A flash of inspiration

Unusual boy and an unusual set produce for the JUTE theatre company Cairns Queensland. Constructed from cardboard to support the storyline. The production of “Roland Thring and the year all his Christmas’s came at once” was primarily a play for children. It was about a young boy who had a very distant relationship with his father and an over bearing mother, he doesn’t fit in at school so he creates a make believe world out of cardboard. Roland gets hit by lightning one night while climbing a radio tower and as a result obtains some extraordinary powers. He then finds out that the “crazy old woman” of the community also possesses. They begin a friendship and Roland begins to explore his new found abilities. Written and Directed by Rod Ainsworth with the Set Design by Dominie Hooper, Set Construction by Darren Merchant and Lighting by Jason Glenright. The set is constructed mainly of cardboard to reflect “Roland’s”  world, a world where things are not as they seem.
